EDPR - Donauwörth HEL

General

All content of this page is not for real world navigation and only for use on VATSIM!

The following types of operation are officially approved at Oberschleißheim Heliport:
IFR, VFR, NVFR
Helicopters (unrestricted), only flight operations of Airbus Helicopters

Donauwörth is an uncontrolled heliport. If you are not yet familiar with AFIS procedures, we strongly recommend to inform yourself prior to flying to or from Donauwörth as the concept is probably quite different from what you are used to in other areas of VATSIM.

Top-down Procedures

Approach and Center stations do not provide top-down services for uncontrolled airfields in Germany but will provide coverage for IFR arrivals and departures.

IFR departures still have to contact München Radar on 136.525 for their enroute clearance if Airbus Information is offline but an APP or CTR sector is covering the area (check vatsim-radar.com).

IFR Departure

Takeoff

Since Donauwörth HEL is uncontrolled, the AFISO won't issue a takeoff clearance. Instead, takeoffs are conducted at pilot's discretion. However, you might be assigned a release window during which you have to depart (inform ATC immediately if you are unable to depart within this window). IFR departures enter controlled airspace when passing 1000 ft AGL.

Auto-handoff

Donauwörth HEL utilizes an auto-handoff procedure for departures; the AFISO will not hand off departures to the approach controller. The current airborne frequency will always be given by the AFISO.

Report passing 2400 ft to Airbus Information and contact München Radar on 136.525 after departure!

IFR Arrival

STAR

There are no STARs for Donauwörth HEL. All inbounds should plan a route to waypoint REDVO which is the initial approach fix. Tactically the controller might also clear you to on of the other IAFs at BURAM or RIDAR which are useable only by ATC or offer you a direct into the approach procedure via one of the PRxxx waypoints - you are expected to continue the procedure from this waypoint onwards if cleared for the approach.
If you did not receive an approach clearance prior reaching the IAF REDVO enter the published holding.

Approach

Donauwörth HEL has two RNP approaches for landing direction 294°, Z and Y with different angles of descent - both are only available for helicopters. IFR arrivals are leaving controlled airspace when passing 1000 ft AGL.

The approaches lead though airspace class E. Look out for VFR traffic!

Landing

The AFISO will provide neither sequencing nor separation. It is your responsibility as the pilot to coordinate with other traffic on frequency. IFR has no priority over VFR.

You will not receive a landing clearance as the airport is uncontrolled. Instead, landings are conducted at pilot's discretion.
