The C1 rating on VATSIM authorizes a controller to work in the Area Control Center (ACC) isand responsiblerepresents the highest regular controller level within VATSIM Germany. With this rating, a controller assumes responsibility for managingen-route aircraft operatingoperations within a Flight Information Region (FIR). An centerACC controller typically receives aircraft from an approach unit or a neighboring ACCcenter sectorssector, guides them safely through their area of responsibility, and laterthen hands them over to anthe approach/arrivalnext unitsector or anotheran ACC.

Strategic, forward-thinking decision-making is essential, as potential conflicts often need to ensurebe safe separation between aircraft. Speed control is commonly applied to maintain this separation, identified and pilotsresolved arewell requiredin toadvance.

TheIn work of an ACC controller generally falls into two categories: operations in lower airspaceairspace, andcontrollers operationshandle in upper airspace.

The C1 rating therefore represents more than just a new position—it marks a substantial step toward greater responsibility, increased complexity, and a comprehensive understanding of airspace structures and traffic flows. It signifies the transition from primarily tactical terminal operations to strategic management of en-route traffic across an entire region.
